Écs is a village with a population of 1880 at the foot of the northern Bakony hills, in the Sokoró hills. It lies 16 km far from Győr, and its area is 19.83 km2.
The village belongs to the Pannonhalma wine-country, where vine cultivation goes back to a long tradition and whose wine is well-known.
Apart from the natural beauties, the village also has several historic monuments. The Roman Catholic church, the Millennium monument, the World War I monument, the World War II memorial and the Mater Dolorosa chapel are all along the main road.
The wooden belfry, whose bell was made in memory of World War I, stands near Öreg street on the top of the hill.
The Petőfi Sándor Elementary School with its sports-court is located in Kossuth street, opposite the kindergarten.
The first vehicle testing course in the country, which spreads across 180 acres, is also located in the village. The Rábaring course is also the venue of several national and international car and motor races.
The Folk-song Association, existing since 1973, keeps the folk-songs of the village in the form of books and recorded material.
Our programs take place in the Community center, which was built in 1973, where the Community Library is also located.
The village’s civil organizations are the Folk-song Association, the Shooting, Soccer, Diabetes and the Pensioners’ Day Club.
The village has well-working health-care: we have a local GP and a dentist, and also a pharmacy.
There are restaurants, bars and other services for the needs of the tourists and local people.
Tourists who don’t drive can visit the village by bus from Győr. Most of the buses stop at our village on the way to Pannonhalma, Ravazd, Bakonyszentlászló, Veszprém, Balatonfüred, Kaposvár.
